Even though our grade 4/5s are classed together, at this moment, the Grade 5s are working on their PYP exhibition. Therefore, the grade 4s and 5s have been separated for the entirety of the exhibition. The grade 4s are doing a unit on Peace and Conflict, so the elementary PE department has decided to fully integrate with this unit through Movement to Music. We will be showing the students different forms of tribal/war dance, as well as dances related to the concept of peace. At the end of the unit, our goal is to have the students choose elements from the different dances that they have learned and piece together their own dance based on the concepts of either peace or conflict.
As you know, there are some excellent You Tube videos of dance and we intend on showing the students some of these dances. I came across the War Dance which is a documentary filmed in northern Uganda. This video is amazing. It is highly inspiring, but at the same time brings to life the harsh realities that many children in Uganda have faced in the past. We will start our integration off by showing the students the 10-minute trailor that you can see below. Let me know your thoughts and post any other recommeded videos that you may have seen or used in the past to create dance.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUAxDAJa-ro
